在HPLC分析中当获得的数据不能获得良好再现性时，常倾向于认为是色谱柱引起的，但实际上有很大可能性存在系统的维护不够等柱以外原因。在此仅就选用的有机溶剂级别不同而造成的对峰形的影响为例进行介绍。
右图为选用乙腈/水为洗脱液，对碱性化合物分析的谱图。峰2为碱性化合物。图1是使用HPLC级乙腈测定的结果，图2是优级乙腈测定的结果（其它条件相同）。在使用HPLC级乙腈时表现为峰形较宽，而使用优级乙腈时，却得到了良好的峰形。同时，优级乙腈根据生产厂家的不同，获得的峰形也会存在差异。这可能是因为乙腈内存在微量杂质，如同向洗脱液中添加了缓冲盐一样起相似的作用。
当洗脱液更换为乙腈/5mM醋酸铵时，无论是优级乙腈、还是HPLC级都可以获得如图2相同的峰形。
因此为了避免由于溶剂级别对分析产生的影响，建议选用HPLC级用溶剂。同时，虽然有时使用不含酸或盐的洗脱液时也可将含可解离基团的化合物进行充分分离，但考虑到分析再现性时建议选用含有缓冲盐的溶剂进行分离。

Nacalai Tesque have launched COSMOSIL 5PFP, a pentafluorophenyl-bonded HPLC column with alternative selectivity to C18 columns. In addition to a hydrophobic separation mechanism, the phase offers dipole-dipole and p-p interactions. COSMOSIL 5PFP shows good retention for compounds with strong dipole moments, such as cationic or halogenated compounds, and exhibits high steric selectivity for structural isomer separations. Columns with analytical to preparative dimensions are available.

Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) applications typically require polar stationary phases such as silica, amino and diol. Although these phases are adequate for many applications, there is still a need for additional polar phases to meet the demands of difficult separations.
Princeton Chromatography has developed a series of amide, urea and pyridine phases that enhance the capability of the SFC technique. Princeton Chromatography was the first company to develop and market the 2-Ethylpyridine phase which was launched in 2001. PrincetonSFC 2-Ethylpyridine is the column of choice for achiral SFC analysis of basic compounds. This phase requires no addition of amines to the eluent, producing excellent peak shape and reproducibility.PrincetonSFC analytical columns are available with lengths of 50 to 250mm and i.d.s of 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 or 4.6mm. Features of SpursilTM Columns
SpursilTM polar-modified phases are based on ultra high-purity silica and novel polar modification technology. The unique bonded phases maximise polar retention and selectivity, while virtually eliminating silanol activity. The resulting polar-modified packing material contains a surface that is easily wetted with polar eluents and can run in highly aqueous conditions.
SpursilTM columns are available in 3, 5 & 10µm size with column lengths from 50 – 250mm and 2.1mm to 10mm ID.
