Guidance for discontinued models and parts delivery

Thank you for your many years of support for our SUMIGRAPH series. Among the series, models shown below have been discontinued due to model change and other reasons, and almost 10 years have passed since the discontinuation. We have since made all our efforts to secure spare parts to be able to provide our customers with repair and maintenance services, yet we have fallen to a difficult situation to procure these spare parts.
Regarding repair and part supply for old model products, we have sent a notice letter below to each customer, but we are unable to contact some customers who have not notified us of changes in their contact address. Here, we would like to raise this issue again to call for attention of our customers.

We appreciate your loyal support for our products, and understanding our situation.

Introduction of SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY

Approved official analytical method for foods, feeds and fertilizers SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY

SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY is a total nitrogen and total carbon analyzer for samples with poor homogeneity, such as foods, feeds, fertilizers, plants, and soils.
Since a large portion of sample can be provided for analysis, SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY can be used for agricultural environment studies as well as for crude protein in food or feed (Food Labeling Act, Act on Standardization and Proper Quality Labeling of Agricultural and Forestry Products (so-called JAS Act), and Feed Analysis Standards).
The measurable amount of sample is 2 g for soils and about 1 g for organic substances (e.g., food), minimizing the effect of sample inhomogeneity.
The adopted assay method is safer than the conventional Kjeldahl method and Tyurin’s method, free from concerns about contamination of work environment and surrounding areas. Additionally, nitrogen and carbon can be measured simultaneously simply by switching the measurement time.

NC-TRINITY Full-automation type

Equipped with automated sampler by default to which 48 samples can be set. Continuous automated assay starts simply by setting a boat with weighed sample to the automated sampler and pressing the start button.

Approved official analytical method (please ask us for details)

Complies with protein assay in the Food Labeling Act (quantitative conversion method)
Complies with total nitrogen assay in the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS Act) and the Feed Analysis Standards
Complies with the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS Act) and the NBR Analysis

High sensitivity and broad assay range

High accuracy assay can be made for a broad range. [Nitrogen: 0.003-100% (0.03-200 mg), carbon: 0.001-100% (0.01-500 mg)]

Simple sampling and weighing

Sampling is extremely simple and easy; you just place the sample on the boat – no need to mix with combustion improver or to seal it. Additionally, the boat can be used repeatedly, contributing to reducing the running cost.
Since a large portion of sample is used for reaction, an adequate assay accuracy can be achieved by weighing using scales with a reciprocal sensitivity of 0.1 mg (1 or 0.01 mg depending on the sample).

Minimal maintenance, effective analysis

The reduced copper and moisture absorbent can be used for 600-800 times and 2000-3000 times successive measurements, respectively, and combustion residues are automatically collected. The time required to stop the apparatus for maintenance can be reduced, realizing a high rate of operation.
The circulation system piping is unitized and controls are consolidated into one board. With these, maintainability has been improved.
Further, SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY uses a dry combustion method. Free from liquid waste, it can be used efficiently and economically by cutting the labor and cost involved with treatment of liquid waste.

SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY is a clean assay system with minimal environmental contamination.

SUMIGRAPH NC-TRINITY does not generate phosphate mist like the Kjeldahl method does. Since there is no need to worry about contamination of work environment and surrounding areas, it can be used without installing incidental equipment such as fume hoods or scrubbers.

Consumption of reduced copper and absorbents is minor, helping in minimizing generation of waste.

Apparatus width and weight were downsized to about 2/3 of conventional models. Through various technology innovations, about 30% of downsizing has been successfully realized.

Introduction of SUMIGRAPH NC-TR22

SUMIGRAPH NC-22 series has evolved into NC-TR22.

SUMIGRAPH NC-TR22 is applicable for a wide range of samples, including soils, fertilizers, plants, industrial products, compounds, and processed foods. Our proprietary fuel technology “oxygen circulatory combustion method” allows thorough combustion of samples with a large organic content or complex matrix without using combustion improver. While combusting, the system highly homogenizes the combustion gas and leads a part of it to a detector, which reduces the consumption degree of consumables. Additionally, the system collects combustion residues to reduce the down time for system maintenance.

These features realize a high rate of operation and low running costs. This system was developed to achieve highly accurate, simple, swift and reliable analysis with low running cost from customers’ viewpoints. SUMIGRAPH NC-TR22 is highly recommended for research, development, and quality control.

Both the apparatus width and weight have been downsized.

Through various technology innovations, downsizing of about 20% and 30% has been successfully realized for the width and for the weight, respectively, compared to conventional models.

Full automation

The system comes with an automated sampler to which 72 samples can be set.
Continuous automated assay starts simply by setting a boat with weighed sample to the automated sampler and pressing the start button.

SUMIGRAPH NCH-22 series can maesure total nitrogen, toatal carbon and total hydrogen.

SUMIGRAPH NCH-22A (semi-automated type) is an automated assay apparatus for one sample at a time. By installing an optional full automation kit, it can be upgraded into a fully automated system.
SUMIGRAPH NCH-22F (fully automated type) is equipped with an automated sampler by default to which 60 samples can be set. Continuous automated assay starts simply by setting a boat with weighed sample to the automated sampler and pressing the start button.

High sensitivity and broad assay range (characteristic of the GC/TCD method)

High accuracy assay can be made for a broad range. [Nitrogen: 0.01-100% (5 μg – 10 mg), carbon: 0.005-100% (5 μg – 70 mg), hydrogen: 0.05-100% (5 μg – 1 mg)]

Simple sampling and weighing (characteristic of circulated combustion method)

Since an adequate assay accuracy can be achieved by weighing using semi-micro scales with a reciprocal sensitivity of 0.01 mg, the weighing operation is highly simple compared to conventional methods. Additionally, their wide dynamic range realizes assay of rare samples for a sample weight of 1 mg or so, weighed using micro scales.
Further, the boat can be used repeatedly, contributing to reducing the running cost.

Minimal maintenance, effective analysis (characteristic of circulated combustion method)

The reduced copper can be used for about 250 times successive measurements, and combustion residues are automatically collected. The time required to stop the apparatus for maintenance can be reduced, realizing a high rate of operation.
The circulation system piping is unitized and controls are consolidated into one board. With these, maintainability has been improved.

Broad applicable range

The form of sample can be either solid or liquid.
Additionally, SUMIGRAPH NCH-22 is applicable to samples with a wide range of volumes, from organic synthesis compounds with only a small sample volume is available to samples that require a large sampling volume. By installing an absorption tube, the assay method can be easily switched between nitrogen/carbon simultaneous assay and nitrogen-only assay.

SUMICHIRAL OA series is a pioneer of chiral HPLC stationary phase using low molecular weight chiral selector.

  • Elution order inversion

    In the SUMICHIRAL OA series, low molecular weight optically active compounds are immobilized onto the stationary phase. By immobilizing an antipode of this optically active component, the elution order of the target substance can be reversed. (Excluding OA-4800/4900/7000 series, 8000, AGP, CBH, and HSA)

  • Applicable for LC-MS

    SUMICHIRAL OA-2500/3000 series is applicable for LC-MS as the recommended mobile phase is methanol containing ammonium acetate.

  • Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC)

    SUMICHIRAL OA-2000 and OA-4000 series are also available for Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC).

Separation of enantiomers takes place due to the minor energy difference between the solute and the stationary phase caused by diastereomeric interactions (e.g., hydrogen bonding, charge transfer, coordinate bonding).

Inversion of Elution Order

In the SUMICHIRAL OA series, low molecular weight optically active compounds are immobilized onto the stationary phase.
By immobilizing an enantiomer of this optically active component, the elution order of the target substance can be inversed.
(Excluding OA-4800/4900/7000 series, 8000, AGP, CBH, and HSA)
The quantitation accuracy can be improved by eluting trace amount components first.

Deactivation of silanol groups

For SUMIPAX ODS Z-CLUE, residual silanol groups are deactivated as much as possible through endcapping, and alkaline compounds exhibit excellent peak shapes even under a neutral condition where they are susceptible to residual silanol groups the most.

Ultra-low pressure column with particle size of 3mm ODS D-210SLP series

Low column pressure was realized by particle size of 3 μm

By eliminating minute particles of packing materials and improving the filling method, the lowest level column pressure was realized.
They allow analysis using an ultra-low pressure while ensuring high performance of the filler with a particle size of 3 μm. As shown in Figure-1, the column pressure is extremely low not only for acetonitrile but also for methanol with which the column pressure becomes higher depending on the mixing ratio with water, realizing good separation in a short time by a large number of theoretical plate.

Durability

As the mobile phase, a methanol/water gradient phase was selected for its huge impact on the column pressure depending on the mixing ratio. As a result of column durability test, there was no major change in the number of theoretical plate after injecting 400 times (Figure-2).

Guard Filters SUMIPAX Filter

Porous glass filter to extend the lifetime of column without changing its separation performance

SUMIPAX Filter (for analysis) is a guard column which houses a 4 mmφ × 4 mmL cylindrical glass filter with 2-μm through holes. When a sample is analyzed using HPLC, performance of separation column decreases because:

  1. substances contained in the sample are adsorbed at the column entrance, and chemically modify the surface of packing materials; and/or,
  2. minute dust generated from pump, injector, etc. accumulates in the column, and gradually modifies the column physically.

SUMIPAX Filter is a filter with guard column functions. By inserting before a column, it prevents deterioration of the column.

Applications of semi-micro HPLC by connecting with SUMIPAX Filter PG-ODS (for semi-micro HPLC) are shown below. No change is observed on chromatograms before and after connection. Semi-micro HPLC filters are also useful for LC-MS.

The dual layer structure improves the particulate capture effect of the filter
⇒ By combining porous glass and sintered metal filter, the particulate capture rate is drastically improved compared to when one of them is used uncombined.

Particulate capture effect

Silica particulates were injected into a column fitted with a filter and the change in the column pressure was observed and compared.

When only a glass filter or only a sintered metal filter is used the column pressure barely increased after over 300 injections, indicating that the silica particles added to the mobile phase were not filtered out by the glass filter or the sintered metal filter and also passed through the column. Each filter is incapable of filtering out (capturing and eliminating) 0.1-μm silica particles by itself.

Guard Filters SUMIPAX Filter

HB filter (hybrid type) has much more improved particulate capturing performance through its dual layer structure with glass filter and sintered metal filter. By connecting before a column, it extends the lifetime of the column. HB filter is particularly effective in protecting ultra-high performance LC columns.
